The Telecom Review staff has been visiting with industry leaders at quite a few industry forums over the last month. We have recently returned from the Asia Carrier Conference, Comptel, ITU World, GITEX and 4G World events. It is always interesting to get feedback from industry leaders on what they are selling, buying, and building, and we certainly received some great feedback.

Bandwidth capacity, as you may have guessed, is at the top of everyone’s mind. Mobile providers see it as a means to provide higher data capacity to the cell sites, Metro providers need it direct to the buildings to provide Ethernet capacity, and Cloud providers need it so that their customers have easy and unhampered access to their centers. With the OTT data use explosion everyone needs more fiber capacity for their Ethernet connections.

In this issue you will see interviews with quite a few leaders of our industry. The cover story is about Canadian mobile carrier Wind Mobile, and their CEO Anthony Lacavera. Their network is a Greenfield build and a very interesting story of how an entrepreneur built a large mobile carrier in an environment that is dominated by incumbents. You will also read about fiber carriers such as Sidera who is increasing the value of their fiber network by expanding connectivity to Cloud service providers. Sidera President Clint Heiden is also energizing the entire Company with a very focused direction. Ericsson CTO Ulf Ewaldsson brings a global perspective about where our industry is heading and some of Ericsson’s initiatives to get there.

I am sure that all of you have seen multiple industry awards announced, many of which you may have never heard about. We even saw one award where a firm announced an award that they had bestowed upon themselves! Telecom Review already recognizes industry leaders in some parts of the world and will be recognizing leaders in North America next year. The program is very structured and focused so you can be sure that awards are based on objective criteria.

We hope that the year 2013 brings good things to everyone in our business, and look forward to seeing you at PTC in Hawaii, where Telecom Review is a media sponsor for the event.
