InteRed has signed an agreement with Panama Digital Gateway for the installation of an Internet Exchange Point (IXP) in Sparkle's data center in Panama. The core objective of this partnership is to manage the IP traffic exchange node in Panama and related activities for the common benefit of its members and other stakeholders.

InteRed Panama was founded in 1997 with the initiative and support of the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (SENACYT), and the Inter-University Hemispheric Network for Scientific and Technological Information (RedHUCyT) of the OAS. It has more than 25 years of existence and experience in Internet matters as an interconnection point where it brings together all telecommunications operators and Internet providers.

Panama Digital Gateway is a state-of-the-art neutral data center with a cable landing station and free zone in Panama that aims to become the digital hub for all Central America, the Andean region and the Caribbean. Integrated with Sparkle's global infrastructure, Panama Digital Gateway is the arrival point for Curie, the cable developed by Google and Sparkle that connects California to Chile.

“The agreement between InteRed and Panama Digital Gateway is of great importance for the development, transformation and creation of Panama's digital ecosystem,” said Jose Hernandez, President of InteRed. “Thanks to this strategic alliance, InteRed will be at the centre of connectivity, reinforcing Panama's position as the Digital Hub of the Americas”.

“InteRed's presence in our data centre is a very important step in transforming Panama's digital ecosystem," explained Gustavo Lagrotta, General Manager of Panama Digital Gateway. “Being part of this development in Panama is something we are very proud of.”
