Achieving new milestones on its network expansion strategy, Windstream Wholesale's dark fiber Beach Route is now connecting fiber from the Jacksonville cable landing station (CLS) to the Myrtle Beach CLS and onwards to Raleigh. Additionally, Windstream Wholesale has partnered with Mid-Atlantic Broadband, Tilson Infrastructure, and SummitIG to expand the dark fiber service further north from Raleigh to Richmond and Ashburn.
Beach Route
Windstream Wholesale's Beach Route covers a distance of 690 miles along the East Coast, linking the Jacksonville CLS to the Myrtle Beach CLS, and extending to Raleigh.
This route boasts lower latency, making it particularly advantageous for cloud services and content delivery providers connecting Raleigh and the Research Triangle region of North Carolina to aerospace hubs in Savannah and Charleston.
Moreover, it provides access to subsea cables at the two major CLS sites along the route, enhancing connectivity options for businesses operating in the area.
Strategic Alliance
Extending the existing path by 315 route miles from Benson to Richmond and Ashburn, the newly formed Beach Route Dark Fiber Alliance simplifies networking solutions by eliminating the complexities of multi-vendor route options, offering customers a seamless experience.
With Windstream Wholesale overseeing all aspects of the network transaction, advantages include expanded fiber coverage, increased mileage, unified contracting, and a dedicated account team.
Joe Scattareggia, President of Windstream Wholesale, emphasized the significance of the Beach Route Dark Fiber Alliance, stating, “By joining forces with Mid-Atlantic Broadband, SummitIG, and Tilson Infrastructure, we’re extending our network reach, adding diversity, and dramatically simplifying the customer experience, continuing to set new standards and shaping the future for connectivity, innovation, and partnerships.”
Tad Deriso, President and CEO of MBC, highlighted the alliance's ability to provide seamless connectivity for dark fiber customers, leveraging unique fiber routes and a diverse southern entry into the QTS Richmond Data Center Campus.
Josh Broder, CEO of Tilson Infrastructure, underscored the significance of their protected, direct middle mile network in North Carolina, offering customers access to unique routes along I-95, US-70, and US-74, ultimately feeding into key data centers in Virginia.
Sunny Kumar, CEO of SummitIG, noted the collaborative effort's role in paving the way for seamless connectivity along the east coast by leveraging collective expertise, resources, and networks.
