In a bold step forward for public safety, Callie Field, President of T-Mobile Business Group, has unveiled four transformative measures to revolutionize support for the nation’s first responders. The announcement marks a significant leap in T-Mobile’s commitment to equipping emergency personnel with cutting-edge technology and resources.

Notably, T-Mobile made a landmark agreement with the City of New York to be the exclusive carrier for the city’s entire public safety network. This deal promises to deliver seamless, high-priority connectivity to one of the nation’s largest urban centers. The company also revealed strategic partnerships with industry leaders Samsung, Getac, and Skydio to enhance the tools available to first responders.

Individual first responders are also set to benefit directly, with T-Mobile rolling out exclusive perks including free access to its T-Priority network slice, a specialized 5G service designed to prioritize their communications. In addition, the company pledged a USD 2 million donation to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a charity supporting first responders and their families.

First responders are the backbone of public safety, and they deserve the most advanced 5G technology to support them when lives are on the line.

Field commented, “With T-Priority, T-Mobile is providing public safety agencies and first responders with the innovative solutions they need to stay prepared, respond faster, and protect the communities they serve.”

Empowering First Responders with 5G

The announcement comes at a critical time. A recent survey highlighted that 64% of first responders consider unreliable networks their top communication challenge, with many still relying on outdated 4G systems plagued by congestion, slow speeds, and coverage gaps. T-Mobile’s T-Priority, powered by its 5G standalone network, aims to address these issues head-on.

The service offers 40% more capacity than competitors, allowing more responders to connect multiple devices, and delivers average speeds 2.5 times faster than rival networks.

At the heart of T-Priority is an innovative network slice, likened to a “traffic cop” for data, ensuring first responders receive up to five times the resources of typical users. This technology promises lower latency, faster speeds, and top-tier priority across all 5G bands, even during peak usage.

With over 4 million first responders nationwide, including volunteers who account for 65% of firefighters, T-Mobile’s efforts extend beyond agency-level support. The company is offering discounts and exclusive benefits on personal phone plans, ensuring that those who serve, including volunteers, have access to the best tools available.

Field emphasized the broader impact: “We’re empowering first responders to lead in times of crisis and shape the future of emergency response.”

As the 5G era of public safety dawns, T-Mobile’s ambitious moves signal a new standard for connectivity and support for frontline responders.
