Zayo has unveiled its latest series of critical infrastructure enhancements, marking significant expansions in network connectivity offerings. Key highlights include the introduction of new 400G-enabled wavelength routes, a capability exclusive to Zayo, alongside expanded on-demand network features and upgrades to its IP core.
Bill Long, Zayo’s Chief Product & Strategy Officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to evolving its network to meet future demands, stating, “Zayo has built North America’s largest independent fiber network, and we continue to advance our offerings to ensure our customers have a network that’s ready for tomorrow’s challenges. Our ongoing infrastructure upgrades continue to make our network a competitive differentiator — providing fast, reliable connectivity where it’s needed most, from tier-1 cities to rural markets and data centers.”
Zayo now offers Waves on Demand services on 10 high-demand routes, with plans for further expansion. Recent additions include vital connections such as Atlanta to Miami and Seattle to San Jose, crucial for coast-to-coast connectivity.
Highlighting their leadership in 400G technology, Zayo currently boasts the continent’s largest 400G network. Since April 2024, the company has launched five unique 400G wavelength routes, enhancing connectivity options with unmatched route diversity from North to South and Coast to Coast.
Further reinforcing its network capabilities, Zayo has achieved nearly 90% 400G-enablement across its North American fiber network, positioning itself as one of the largest fully 400G-enabled networks by year’s end.
In parallel, Zayo has expanded its IP footprint, adding 11 new points-of-presence (PoPs) across key data centers in North America and upgrading four existing 400G IP PoP locations in strategic markets like San Jose, Seattle, Phoenix, and New York. This expansion brings Zayo’s global IP PoP count to 375, with 250 located in North America.
These initiatives underscore Zayo’s ongoing commitment to network innovation and service excellence, highlighted by significant infrastructure expansions in 2024: nearly 500,000 additional fiber miles and the addition of 2,000 new on-net buildings.
