MOX Networks has acquired spectrum from Google on the Transpacific Topaz subsea cable system, the first-ever fiber cable to connect Canada and Asia. This new cable path, combined with MOX’s network infrastructure portfolio, will bring new wholesale capacity to customers seeking secure, diverse connections between Japan and North America.
“We are thrilled to join Topaz as a commercial network provider offering high-capacity, low-latency, next-generation diverse networks connecting Canada and Japan. Our customers and partners mean the world to us and we are excited to grow with them as a preferred connectivity partner,” said Allen Meeks, President and CEO, MOX. “With the constantly evolving and insatiable focus on technology and AI, we believe that both our network infrastructure and the international submarine cable network are integral parts of the support system for these innovations.”
Topaz features 16 fiber pairs, delivers a total capacity of 240Tbps, and features Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) technology, a software-defined spectrum slicing capability on an optical fiber pair for flexibility in routing and enhanced resilience. The eastern end of the cable begins in Vancouver and connects to the prefectures of Mie and Ibaraki in Japan.
“It’s been exciting to see Topaz come to fruition after our close collaboration with MOX and other partners,” said Ian Clarke, Director, Global Submarine Networking, Google. “By offering fiber and spectrum to carriers like MOX, Google ensures that other customers can benefit directly from the work we are doing to improve global connectivity with increased reach, reliability, and resilience.”
MOX is a commercial provider of wholesale bandwidth solutions from Vancouver, Westward to Tokyo, and south down to Seattle. Offering up to 400G Wavelengths and dark fiber channels over a multi-terabit network, MOX provides connectivity to data hubs on both ends of the subsea network via highly dense cables and systems that fully serve the Americas and Japan. The MOX network spans over 16,000 kilometers with submarine and terrestrial fiber, including access to the latest next-generation subsea system, Topaz.
